(Nashville, Tenn.) Jan. 31, 2013--Music icon Michael W. Smith performed for a capacity crowd of 2,800 at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City this weekend. The concert, part of an extended New York City weekend fan experience, featured a guest choir comprising 300 members and fans from more than 30 states and six countries, who joined Smith on stage for songs including “Above All,” “Total Praise” and “Agnus Dei,” among others.
The highlight of Smith’s 4-day, 3-night destination fan event (Jan. 24-27) was the Saturday evening show, which sold out a month in advance, attracted nearly 600 “friends,” with 300 signing up to rehearse and perform live alongside the multi-platinum, multi-GRAMMY Award-winning artist. An additional 15 fans, all professional symphony players, were also among the 65-piece orchestra that accompanied Smith.
One of the event’s producers, Roy Hayes of True North Presents comments, “This Michael W. Smith concert is the ninth event that we have presented at Carnegie Hall and the first to perform to a sold-out concert hall. It was truly an amazing event. A very powerful evening.”
In addition to the Carnegie Hall performance, Smith’s Big Apple fan excursion also included Central Park carriage rides, visits to the 9-11 Memorial site and a dinner cruise on the Hudson River.
Smith’s next “fan weekend” event is scheduled for June 21 - 23 in his hometown of Franklin, Tenn. The “Tennessee Weekend” will feature numerous concerts, teaching and tours all culminating with a summer party at Smith’s farm outside of Franklin.
